Communities rethinking prosperity
For decades 'prosperity' has been linked to the idea of wealth. Government policy has focused on economic growth, measured by rising GDP, as the way to improve living standards and opportunities. Yet rising inequalities, in-work poverty, and livelihood insecurity challenge the idea that economic growth should be the measure of a good life.
The London Prosperity Board is an innovative cross-sector partnership established by UCL’s Institute for Global Prosperity to rethink what prosperity means for London.
The goal of the London Prosperity Board is to change the way decision-makers think and act for prosperity by developing new forms of evidence and new ways of working that make shared and inclusive prosperity a reality.
We do this by:
Working in partnership - bringing citizen scientists, communities, local authorities, government, public agencies and business together to develop new thinking and build shared understanding and capacity
Redefining prosperity - generating new knowledge based on lived experiences of citizen social scientists and communities to bring local priorities into policymaking and create new ways of measuring prosperity
Changing action by changing the evidence base - creating new ways to measure prosperity and generate evidence to inform policy, planning, and investment in places
While our work focuses on the perspectives of people living and working in east and central London, we are sharing new ways of working, knowledge, and evidence about how prosperity is defined and measured with partners in other parts of the UK and globally.
