Communities rethinking prosperity
For decades 'prosperity' has been linked to the idea of wealth. Government policy has focused on economic growth, measured by rising GDP, as the way to improve living standards and opportunities.
Yet rising inequalities, in-work poverty and job insecurity challenge the idea that economic growth should be the measure of a good life.
The London Prosperity Board was established by UCL’s Institute for Global Prosperity in 2016 to develop new thinking, evidence, and ways of working to fair and inclusive prosperity a reality for Londoners.
We work with citizen scientists and community groups in London to understand prosperity differently and to bring local priorities into policymaking.
While our work focuses on the perspectives of people living and working in east London, our ambition is to develop new ways of thinking about how prosperity is defined and measured that can be shared across London and the UK more widely.
